  2. Not having been to Africa, I feel unqualified to make informed comments, but some of my general thoughts follow. As a conservation biologist, my concerns about Africa are both for the human societies and the biodiversity. The continent has such a unique and diverse biota, but widespread poverty means that biological communities suffer. Moreover, many infectious diseases are being transmitted between humans and animals, affecting both the natural and cultural heritage. Decreasing poverty, and increasing education on disease transmission and sustainable wild harvests seem imperative.
